I believe that everyday is a learning experience for young children. As a childcare
provider and teacher I am dedicated to guiding children in their learning
through the use of educational manipulatives. For example, if your child
is interested in the topic such as dinosaurs, I will guide him/her to learn
more about dinosaurs through books, puzzles, games and any material available
to help us explore the subject. I believe that the teacher/care giver is
a partner in learning. |
By choosing a home daycare your child has the great advantage of one-on-one attention
and guidance. I plan to include all subject areas into our daily activities,
including: Art, Science, Math, Cultural Activities, Reading Readiness,
Practical Life Skills, Sensorial Activities, Large and Small Motor Skills, Grace
and Courtesy and Dramatic Play. I also believe that outdoor play is very
important for young children. We will have outdoor playtime everyday in
the a.m. and in the p.m. for approximately 40 minutes each during warmer weather
and shorter time spans during the winter months as weather permits. The environment is set up in a "Montessori" style. Although I do not have actual "Montessori" materials in the environment is designed to encourage your child to chose his/her "work" from a shelf and use the material in an appropriate way with the requirement of returning it to its original place. The children will show respect for their peers as well as the materials. For example, if a child is misusing something, (item is thrown, placed in mouth, pounded, etc) he/she will be remeinded of the rules one time before being asked to return the material to the shelf. Here are the rules we will follow in our daycare setting: 1. We use walking feet and inside voices while indoors. 2. We use gentle touches and are respectful of our friends and materials. 3. We listen to our caregiver. 4. We are responsible for what we say and do.
